New NCNZ Application Process

New IQN application for registration process October 2010
In response to feedback the Council has implemented a new two stage application process.
The two stages of the application process are:
* Stage one, the application form is sent out, completed by the applicant and returned with the fee
* Stage two, the Council will send the applicant the transcript of training and the verification (also known as a letter of good standing) forms with an applicant identifier number.
The overall information and requirements for registration has not changed.
The changes in process should reduce the delays often experienced with documents arriving before an application has been submitted.
This change becomes effective from the 1st December 2010

Overseas Applications
The Nursing Council will be accepting new applications for registration from internationally qualified nurses (IQN) as from 1 October 2010.
Please click here to view the amended gazette notice.
The Nursing Council is currently changing the application process for IQNs applying for NZ registration. This becomes effective from 1 November 2010. The application process under Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Act will remain unchanged.
Further information will be provided shortly.
In the interim the Nursing Council will continue to accept applications from the application package currently available on the website, please click here for further information.

Work Experience Requirement as of Dec 2009
Please be informed that the Work Experience Requirement is Critical in 3 different stages in your NZ Application.
1. NCNZ - their work experience requirement changes from time to time. I suggest that you email / call them directly to verify :

2. CAP schools- again different CAP schools requires different length of work experience. (2009 trend is MOST CAP providers requires 2 or more years of work experience. You will have a limited choice of CAP provider if you have less than 2 years of work experience. Contact them individually for their requirements.
3. Work Application - ( 2009 trend= Private / Government hospitals prefer applicants with 2-3 or more years of work experience. Please bear in mind that you are competing for slots with other overseas applicants with heaps of work experience , NZ new graduates plus other kiwis that are returning to nursing. If you have less than 2 years of work experience you will have a slight difficulty in securing a job offer from a hospital. But there are still jobs from resthomes and other facilities.)
These are all trends based on the experiences of Nurse2nz forum members for 2009. Do not take my word for it. I just wanted all of you who are just starting their NZ application to be informed of the latest trends in nursing in NZ.

CHECKLIST AS OF OCTOBER 2010

STAGE 1 documents
The following documents must be sent together:
1. Application Form 3
2. Fees Payment Form 4

3. Curriculum Vitae (detailed - with Job description, Nursing duties and responsibilities , traninings and educational background)
4. Passport ( Notarized Copy)
5. Marriage Certificate (NS0- Authenticated by DFA and NZ Embassy)
6. PRC Board Certificate (PRC - Authenticated by DFA and NZ Embassy)
7. NBI Clearance (Original and 6 months valid)
8. Two (2) Professional References Form 8( dated and in official Letterhead)
9. One (1) Character Reference Form 9 (dated)
10. Certificate of Employment ( dated and with total number of hours worked as an RN)
11. Certified True Copy / Notarized IELTS test result (7.0 in all bands) (IDP or British Council)
STAGE 2 documents
The following documents must be sent directly to NCNZ by PRC ,andyour Nursing School
2. Verification Request Form (PRC)
3. Transcript Request Form (Transcript with detailed course outline/description/syllabus) (School)
note: please refer to this CRITERIA FOR REGISTRATION and make sure that all subjects listed in criteria 3 will appear on your course outline/syllabus/course description. If there are subjects that are incorporated into other subjects, make sure that your registrar/dean will include a letter explaining in details what subjects are incorporated into other subjects.
